Program Overview
The Child Abuse Response Certificate Program was developed to respond to the needs of community professionals who may encounter abused children in their roles at work. Many professionals have requested training so that they can identify a child at risk, and can best assist in an investigation without jeopardizing criminal or child welfare proceedings.
The Child Abuse Response Certificate Program, in which a certificate of participation is issued by The Canadian Society for the Investigation of Child Abuse, is a 30 hour program consisting of 5 core workshops.
Program Modules
These five online modules run from October 2009 to March 2010.
Responding to Child Abuse
Come and learn how to identify cases of child abuse, handle disclosures without contaminating evidence and to clarify your role when working with police and child welfare. Assessing Family Dynamics
Working with abusive families can be a challenge! This workshop will focus on assessing family interactions, personal characteristics and parenting ability.
Understanding False Allegations
Nothing can be more frightening than to be wrongly accused of child abuse. Come to understand how such allegations can be made, what the investigative protocols will entail and how to best protect yourself.
The Psychopathology of the Abused Child
When a child has been abused, there can be emotional, developmental and behavioural effects. Learn how a child can be impacted and how best to support and facilitate positive changes.
Testifying as a Witness in Court
Court proceedings can be intimidating. You will learn court rules, court process and the expectations of a witness.

Category A Credits
Participants can either elect to complete the certificate program or can take individual workshops, as desired. Certificates for individual workshops will also be issued at the end of workshop day. Workshops offered by CSICA have been accredited as a provider of Approved Continuing Education (ACE) for Category A training (#1100) by the Association of Social Work Boards.
Workshops must be completed in order to receive a certificate of credit.
